Convenience isn't just for you
Auto thieves like, it too.
Most people today use self-service gas pumps at convenience stores and gas stations and may not realize they are a popular location for auto thieves to find unwary victims. Car thieves simply wait nearby for the moment when the unsuspecting owner is using the pump, enter the vehicle and drive away. Many people leave their keys in the ignition or on the seat of their unlocked auto providing a perfect opportunity for the thief.
Sometimes, an auto thief will wait until the driver goes into the gas station to pay for gas or another purchase. While the driver is occupied with the cashier, the vehicle is stolen. We are used to feeling secure at gas stations but need to understand that today they are prime targets for auto thefts and larcenies from vehicles.
To prevent being victimized always take your keys with you even when standing next to your car at the gas pump. Lock your car to prevent thieves from removing your valuables, such as your cell phone or wallet, from the passenger side doors. It only takes seconds for a thief to open an unlocked door, take your belongings, and flee.
Always, lock your car! Take your keys!
