Hot Wheels Report
In 2020, a vehicle was stolen every 36 seconds.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released its annual Hot Wheels report October 12, 2021, which identifies the top 10 most stolen vehicles in the United States in 2020.
Nationwide, the Ford full size pick-up tops the list of most stolen vehicles for the second year in a row, followed by the full-size Chevy pick-up with thefts that increased by 26% over 2019.
To guard against theft, NICB recommends following these four layers of protection:
Use Common Sense - Always remove your keys from the ignition and take with you. Lock your doors and close your windows. Park in a well-lit area.
Use Warning Devices - Use a visible or audible device to show thieves your car is protected. Consider audible alarms, steering column devices, VIN etching, or brake and wheel locks.
Immobilizing Devices - These prevents thieves from by passing your ignition and hot-wiring the vehicle. Smart keys, fuse cut-offs, starter, ignition and fuel pump disablers are also helpful deterrents.
Tracking Devices - These emit a signal to a monitoring station when the vehicle is stolen. These systems are very effective in helping authorities recover stolen vehicles.
